The Time Traveler’s Wife
This was a really precious movie; maybe I’m just a sucker for romance, or maybe even just Rachel McAdams. It had lots of twists and turns, sending the viewer back and forth in time to see multiple characters at different ages. While my friend and I were able to predict the resolution of some of the plot twists now and then, a lot of it was out of the blue (and I’m not gonna lie, it was confusing).
Ultimately, I left the theater thinking it was a good movie. It is definitely not a happy ending-it’s bittersweet at best; when the lights came up there was a LOT of sniffling. Mind you, this is a mostly female audience but I overheard a few positive comments from the husbands and boyfriends that were along for the ride. I’m sure that the storyline, which is bittersweet and mainly about the male’s struggle in relation to the female, helped pull them in a little more. I think the movie is a little more realistic when it comes to people’s feelings of longing and love, and that aspect will make it successful.
*Note: I haven’t read the book. I have every intention of reading it, because I’m always a stickler about “reading the book first!” And I have to mention that I REALLY hope they don’t release a book cover with a movie picture on it because that always irks me.
